Designed to tackle the restrictions on space and emissions in the modern cities, Volkswagen has revealed the Electric Taxi Concept. The model is the latest in the VW’s ‘World Taxis’ and is based on the upcoming UP! city car. The green taxi for the London has been revealed by Klaus Bischoff, VW’s head of design. This is not all and the model is deeply considered by VW board for the production.

Metro king, First domestically made wheelchair accessible taxi.

A new company called MetroKing has sprung up that hopes to manufacturing cabs in America just as former taxi maker Checker has filed for bankruptcy. Starting with the underpinnings from a two-wheel drive Chevrolet Colorado Chassis Cab Work Truck, MetroKing replaces the pickup bed with a passenger compartment of its own design that features room for six occupants. The company points out that their design is fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, being wheelchair accessible through a unique side access ramp. Interestingly, luggage rides alongside the driver on a dedicated tray, there is no passenger seating next to the driver. Thankfully, air conditioning is standard for the passenger compartment.

During the last 10 years I've seen lots of future designs for new Wheelchair Cabs. Designs like the future taxi in the picture here. Always small cars running on an environmental friendly kind of energy. Never  were these cars accessible for disabled or adapted to wheelchairs. This is the first wheelchair accessible taxi design. And what a design. I love it. A very ingenious multi purpose vehicle running on a hydrogen fuel cell.

It can transport up to 4 people at once or one disabled person and his companion. It has ramp access and some luggage space. For more pictures see this website.

Now I just have to wait for this taxi to become available in Bangkok or even better Hua Hin, Thailand.
