Designed to tackle the restrictions on space and emissions in the modern cities, Volkswagen has revealed the Electric Taxi Concept. The model is the latest in the VW’s ‘World Taxis’ and is based on the upcoming UP! city car. The green taxi for the London has been revealed by Klaus Bischoff, VW’s head of design. This is not all and the model is deeply considered by VW board for the production.

VW Electric Taxi Concept gets power from 45kW/h lithium-ion batteries that generate 112bhp providing the vehicle a range of 186miles and a top speed of 74mph. The vehicle was partially inspired by the iconic London cab. The emission free vehicle measures 3.73 meters 1.66m in width and 1.6m in height. Taxi is shorter than the VW’s Fox city car yet uses a long wheelbase and minimal front and rear overhangs to allow a driver to pick up two fares plus their luggage.
Apart from on-board flat-panel displays for the complete information of the trip to passengers as well as making translation and payment easier via a card swipe in the rear cabin, the vehicle also flaunts the tongue-in-cheek styling details such as a silver Union Jack on the roof and the City of London’s coast of arms printed on the doors. However, as of now the vehicle doesn’t meet the current legal requirements regulating London taxis, but once given go ahead for the production the brand is sure to meet the requirements for the same.
